Eventing Nation Announces 1st Annual $1,000 Diversity Scholarship

Eventing Nation has established a new diversity scholarship in efforts to continue conversations about diversity and inclusion in the equestrian sport.

Here's what they had to say:
Today we are excited to announce Nation Media’s 1st Annual $1,000 Diversity Scholarship, with the funds to be divided between the top three winners: 1st – $500, 2nd – $300, 3rd – $200.
All minority equestrians are invited to apply. The Scholarship may be used any in way that the recipient desires to further their riding career, be it educational opportunities, competition entry fees or equipment/tack.
Applicants should submit an essay and/or video sharing their experience as a minority equestrian and ideas for how we can increase diversity and inclusion in our sport. Possible topics:
  1. Write an action plan for encouraging diversity at the local, regional or national level in equestrian sport.
  2. Where do you envision diversity and inclusion going in the near and long-term future for our sport?
  3. How can we be more inclusive at our own barns?
Please submit entries to en.contest@gmail.com. The deadline for applications is Friday, July 10, 2020. There is no word minimum or maximum. After the winners have been announced, we will be honored to share all essays and/or videos on EN throughout the summer.
The deadline is very tight, but I thought I'd share.

  1. I’m so cynical these days that I read the announcement and was like, “wow that sounds like a cheap way to harvest ideas and outsource the hard part” haha. For real tho I’m glad they’re doing it and am interested to see what comes of it. Lots of people out there with important views and good ideas... are you going to submit an entry too??

    1. Oh psshshshs yeah. Just make a diversity & inclusion committee like everyone else. I keep considering making an entry, but I'm channeling a lot of strength in anger right about now, and idk if they'll give me money for that.

  2. I'm glad someone is doing something, wish it could be more but maybe they will be a leader and others will follow!

    1. Tbh when I mentioned organizations needing to establish scholarships, I was referring more to USHJA & USEF, but Eventing Nation is a great place to start! There was an upper level rider years ago who was talking about a scholarship/program for cash strapped riders. It never materialized, but the idea is out there, and hopefully someone picks it up.
